Mary E. Knight, CRNP

Mary E. Knight, CRNP has been an integral part of Allergy, Asthma, and Clinical Immunology Specialists, PC since her association with Dr. Raby at Huntsville Lung Associates in 1998. A lifelong resident of Alabama, she completed her undergraduate training at Auburn University and received her Bachelor of Science and her Masters of Science in Nursing from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. She has seven years of experience in intensive care nursing, which was a perfect segue to allergy and asthma care. This has been her area of interest for the majority of her career. As a certified registered nurse practitioner specializing in the care of allergy and asthma patients, she provides an invaluable portion of patient care. She uses her experience in education to aid in routine follow-up of established patients, acute care, treatment of allergic reactions, and patient education.

One of the advantages of seeing a specialist in an allergy office is the amount of time that is dedicated to patient education. Mary is an important part of that process in our office, whether it is direct patient instruction or staff education. She is also an active educator in the community. She has presented numerous lectures on allergy and asthma management to allied healthcare professionals in North Alabama. She has also participated in public education programs, including health fairs to increase the awareness of asthma, a growing problem and concern in our country. She is a certified asthma educator. Mary worked with the Madison County school nurses and was instrumental in development of school policies making it possible for schoolchildren to have their asthma medications available on their person during the school day on school campuses.

Mary is a certified family nurse practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She is an allied health member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology and the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology. She is a member of the North Alabama Nurse Practitioner’s Association. She was on the Asthma and Allergy Foundation selection committee for Asthma Space Camp and has volunteered at Camp WheezeAway. She has served as a study coordinator for the Tilade Clinical Experience Study, the Salmeterol Multicenter Asthma Research Trial (SMART study), and The Epidemiology and Natural History of Asthma Outcomes and Treatment Regimens Study (TENOR).

Mary lives in Huntsville and is a member of Provident Baptist Church. She has participated in service and evangelical mission trips to build homes in Nicaragua. Her son, Jeff, is also an Auburn graduate with dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Exercise Physiology and Systems Engineering. In her spare time, Mary enjoys Bible Study, Crossfit Training, traveling, hiking, reading, and gardening.
